    Description

    • Hold the blades by the sides. Place the blade in the blade chamber. Give the handle a gentle shake to help seat the blade. Make sure the blade is centered from end to end and hold the razor head level.     Awesome Shave Like many others, i started off skeptical of the market but soon after trying, found a superior and well likable shave in the safety Razor market. I started off small, out of curiosity after getting a bit of sticker shock after trying some Razor shaving clubs (Harry's, Dollar Shave club, Gillette), etc, and all found no matter how sharp, no matter how many blades, no matter how 'smooth', the tugging on the face and scraped skin and razor burn was just something i assumed was part of the shave, until i tried safety Razors. The shave is as smooth as silk and it leaves a glorious feeling on the face, shaving has gone from a daily chore to a weekly luxury, and too, the shave seems to be closer and leaves my skin smooth as a baby's bottom and yet without any burn or irritation. There was a small bit of a learning curve my first few days, but after learning technique (and, also learning to lay off the pressure having been adapted to cheap and dull cartidges that weren't as sharp), the shaving quality improved. I was paying 2-5$ a cartridge before, but now at the costs of the options, you can get 100 safety razor blades like a Dorco or Astras for 6-9$ at under 6-9 cents a blade and getting better higher quality shaves! Sure, the lack of a lubrication strip means that a canister of barbasol is neccasary, but it's been well worth it IMO! 5Terrible weight distribution I lost my other long handled razor. This one gets great reviews so I decided to try it.It's ok but the weight distribution is all wrong. It feels clumsy and awkward. I must reposition it in my hand frequently because the end keeps shifting. Even though it is a long handled razor, it feels like a short handled.The blades insert and remove easily but the blade angle is not like my old razor so I must constantly readjust.The blades that are included are terrible seriously poor quality.I didn't expect great quality for $15 but I thought it would be better than this.The Viking Vulcan (Mighty Long) has a slightly longer handle at 4.625"/118mm, weighs 81 grams and designed with a much better weight distribution. 2Caution Advised I would be very cautious when purchasing this product. While the product itself is elegant in design and is similar to other safety razors, you'll often find that the amount of pressure you'll be using is a lot more than you'd expect from say an Edwin Jagger. You'll also notice that when you do shave, it just doesn't get as close as you'd like it, requiring 4-5 passes instead of 2-3. Finally, when you finish shaving, often times you'll feel raw, having the razor burn you wanted to avoid by buying a safety razor.In terms of cleaning, yes the butterfly opening makes removing the razor simple and easy, but because of the lack of space given once open, it very hard to clean the razor head itself. All in all, you're getting yourself into wet shaving for a reason, to reduce razor burn, to get a closer shave, whatever. Saving yourself $15 is not going to get you these things without a bit of work and discomfort. If you want all of perks and enjoyment of wet shaving, just get a better razor. 3Great for sensitive skin I just switched from disposable razors and bought this to use on my legs because I read that safety razors are better for sensitive skin. Plus it s less waste than disposable razors! There are a few things from my experience that may be helpful for other people looking for sensitive skin shaving solutions:1) It will take a bit of practice to learn how to use the safety razor effectively.2) The first time I used it I gave myself the worst shave of my life - but even with the nicks and patches of missed hair and half-cut hairs all over my legs I got zero razor burn. Better than that: ZERO INGROWN HAIRS. Could not believe it.3) The butterfly closure is easy to use but traps gunk so at the end of each shave it s best to open it up and give it a good rinse.4) The shave I get with the safety razor keeps my legs soft and smooth for about two days as opposed to one.5) I had to switch to a thicker shaving cream from the one I used to use.Overall I really like this razor. 5Pleasantly surprised I was really skeptical buying this for 12 bucks, as I figured it had to be made far across the pond. I normally use a long handle Parker but lost it somehow.After unboxing, first thing I checked was the accuracy of the butterfly operation. It was precise and accurate. The shaver came with a couple blades so I popped one in. Again, I was surprised how sharp it was. Digging out my magnifying glass I found those words Americans love, made in China. Really, what did I expect for 12 bucks!I hadn't shaved for 3 weeks so it was up for the real test. Luckily, my Cremo shave cream came in the same shipment. I was curious and anxious to give this razor his first trial run. I am amazed with the results! One of the closest shaves I ever had, no nicks or cuts. I shaved in all directions. My face is as smooth as a babys butt.The longer than usual handle has a nice non slip feel to it, also feels very balanced. I love it!Not all faces are the same, what works for me may not work for you, but this razor is a great value. I really believe the Cremo shave cream is the perfect partner with this razor. 5Women's review Out of the box I thought the razor was well made and sturdy. A bit heavy but that was expected. The handle is comparable in length to a standard womans razor. Installing the blade was simple enough. Today I tried it in a similar fashion to how I normally would shave. The only notably exceptions being I sat down in the shower, used less pressure and paid more attention to what I was doing. In addition to my legs I did my underarms successfully and also much like I normally would have. After the initial fear of doing something wrong subsided the whole process was really pretty easy. I only noticed after getting out I had the tiniest cut on my knee. I also noticed upon getting out how much closer a shave I got. I was almost disappointed while still in the shower but drying off really showed how much better this razor seems to work. Overall I think you should totally get one! Saves money and plastic. Closer shave and if the other rumors are to be believed it'll last longer too. 5Great safety razor if you're interested in learning to shave ... Great safety razor if you're interested in learning to shave with one. The amount of exposed blade is on the safer side, so it's not as aggressive as some razors. May require going over tough spots twice, or if you skip a day or two. Four months, still no rust or corrosion on the handle/butterfly mechanism. Cleaned with rubbing alcohol, still shines like the day I got it.Originally didn't like the included blades, so I started with plain stainless steel blades. Once I got the hang of it, they worked very well. Went back to try the included blades. VERY sharp. Those early nicks were user error.Update! It's still going strong. However, I live in an area with a lot of hard water. Over time, the calcium built up on the razor head. I soaked it in half a plastic cup filled with vinegar for a day or two, and then rinsed. Back to what it looked like when I got it. 5From a female perspective Since there are only a handful of lady posts for this product, I'll throw in my 2 cents. I've only used this razor a couple of times, but so far so good. I've shaved my legs, arms, and the lady area. No complaints!I have no other safety razor experience to compare this to. That said, I love that it has a butterfly handle; inserting or removing the blade is so easy. The razor has a good weight to it. I love that no hairs get clogged between blades!!! I'm never going back to disposables, to the relief of the environment and my wallet.Bottom line is, I chose this razor because I'm on a budget and figured the blade is more important than the razor. I'm only giving four stars because the bottom butterfly twist is kind of loose. Not a big deal to me, but it may impact long term usage if it continues to loosen. 4Best Way To Drag A Razor Across Your Neck! I am a few shaves in with this razor (using the included YingJiLi blades), and it has been transformative. Highly favorable first impression.The razor is decently heavy in hand, and the mechanism to open/close the head of the razor seems to operate without any defect, locking the blade tightly into position. It s a good looking razor, in my opinion. I have big hands, so I thought the long handle would be the way to go, but in practice I don t really think it matters much.The razor came well packaged in a box with a small packet of 5 DE blades which were each individually double-wrapped in a paper envelope. I have no complaints about any of it, and would recommend this to anybody that wants a clean, close, shave. If you have any facial hair (moustache, beard, chinstrap, etc.) this razor works really well to cut a nice sharp/straight line when grooming. Obviously, this single edge is easier to control than the sloppy cartridges.For less than the price of one small refill packet of cartridge razors, you can have this razor and save tons of money by buying DE blades. Even expensive blades are only twenty-something dollars for 100 blades, with most brands being half that cost. That will likely get most folks through at least a year, I d bet.I ve ordered different blades to try, as it is widely accepted that a blade that is liked by one person may not be suitable for another. The included blades with this razor are generally not very well-liked, so I m hoping that with different blades that this whole experience will become even better.Haha, I couldn t seem to stop writing so, fair warning, SUPER LONG story/ continuation of review below:I started shaving with an electric foil razor as a teen. Quickly decided that it was worthless, and switched to single blade disposables. (In retrospect, those were probably the best razors I have used, until now.) As I got older, I followed the 2, then 3, then 4 5 etc. cartridge blade progression. I ve tried all of it, different electrics. All of it.I ve always hated shaving. I have a very full, coarse beard, but very sensitive skin. Obviously that is not an appealing combination for a person that needs to shave every day. I ve tried every different trick and potion and lotion and whatever else, but my neck always looked like (and felt like) it had been attacked by a cheese grater. This led to not shaving every day, which led to ingrown hairs. It was a vicious cycle. I eventually went to using a set of electric hair trimmers and sporting the 5 o clock shadow look. It kept my skin from being irritated, but it wasn t as nice as a clean close shave.A couple of weeks ago, I was talking to my father and he mentioned off-hand that he had bought himself a new safety razor. He commented that he had forgotten how great they were. (I remembered his razors and soaps and everything from when I was a kid. I had loved it all.) For some reason, this conversation rattled around in my head for about a week when I decided to pick myself up a razor. Of all the hair-removal things I have endured over the years, I cannot explain why I ve never tried a simple safety razor. After three decades of shaving, I finally have one.In researching razors, I kept seeing Weishi as the manufacturer of this, that, and the other brand of safety razors. It seems like just about any twist-to-open razor under twenty dollars is probably made by them. Reviews made by reasonable people all seemed favorable enough.I currently have a beard (winter tradition. For the rest of the year, I have a moustache/goatee), but I do shave my neck and groom my cheeks above the beard.My routine:-Hot shower, scrub skin thoroughly with soap.-Pat neck with towel, but don t dry completely.-Apply pre-shave oil (I use Shave Secret. Wlmrt has it for about a third of the price of what it is sold for on Amazon, FYI)-Load shaving brush with hot water and build lather with shaving cream (I m using Proraso green shaving cream).-Work my stubble up with the brush/soap.-Smooth, straight strokes with the razor, rinsing blade with every stroke.-Cold water rinse on skin when done.-Splash of witch hazel on skin.-Touch of styptic pencil to slight knick on my throat (Clubman styptic, again much cheaper at Wlmrt than on Amazon.)-Splash of aftershave (Pinaud Clubman, it takes me back to being a kid at a legit old-man barbershop. Delightful!)-Head out to conquer the world.{Side note: If you are able to enjoy a nice glass of bourbon while you are doing this, it really adds a certain flair. If you re not a bourbon drinker, try a cup of coffee with a bit of the Irish in it. Maybe have your favorite music playing in the background, too. Have your boxers and a fresh undershirt warming up in the dryer to put on when you re finished. Jazz up an otherwise dreary task. I assure you that you will feel like a million bucks when you re done. It s an affordable luxury!}So, after all of this blathering-on what s my bottom line? I can shave again with a razor.I ve shaved multiple days in a row for the first time in more years than I can remember. I ve got a few slightly red areas on my neck, but they don t hurt/aren t irritated, and it is likely due to my current inexperience/technique. Shaving over those spots the next day gives me no discomfort, whereas the irritation from cartridge razors would not permit shaving the next day without an extreme amount of blood-letting and pain. 5Excellent safety razor This cannot be beat for the price (which I have seen fluctuate some in the past few weeks). I bought mine around $12 shipped. Excellent safety razor. I have been shaving with a safety razor of this style for a couple years now. I got curious when buying Christmas gifts and wound up buying them for all the men in my family. My girlfriend liked mine so much she got one as well.I bought some other major brands from Royal Shave.com for double or triple the price of this and they were great gifts and still reasonably priced.This thing blows them out of the water. Its texture might look like it is smooth, but it is actually pretty grippy without being abrasive. I think this is what they call a closed-comb design where the razor edge is a little more protected and harder to cut yourself with. This seems to be the case and is great for face and body. The handle length is similar to 'normal' commercial shaving razors, which I can appreciate as the Merkur I've been using has a stubby handle. Oh, and if you have ANY doubts...butterfly opening is the way to go and lets you quick-change blades without having to rotate the head off of it and play with multiple pieces and then put the new blade in and then tighten it down by the head (with the new razor in it)...The blades are super inexpensive. I'm not picky and have used multiple brands with the same results and little to no irritation, but I do not go to bare skin (on my face).Stop thinking about it and buy one already. 5
